The European Researchers’ Night (ERN) returns to Coimbra in 2026 on September 25th from 3pm to 11pm. ERN is a european initiative carried out in tens of countries with the goal of bringing science and civil society closer together, sharing knowledge and promoting research areas through engaging demonstrations and fun activities.
This edition’s theme is “Uniting Knowledge, Transforming the Future”, underlining the importance of collaboration between areas of expertise and facets of society in helping us face the great challenges of the contemporary world. As such, the ERN program includes several science communication activities organized by researchers to share their work with audiences of every age, promoting dialogue between research and citizens.
These activities include games, exhibits, interactive experiences, and conversations with researchers that will be distributed throughout Coimbra downtown, from Praça 8 de Maio all the way to Largo da Portagem.
The Centre for Innovative Biomedicine and Biotechnology (CiBB), an innovation and research unit that integrates CNC-UC, iCBR-FMUC, MIA-Portugal e GeneT, will be present with 29 activities and dynamized by over 280 researchers. We invite all members of the community and everyone curious to come visit. Come learn and share knowledge with us!
This initiative is coordinated by the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research (iiiUC) of the University of Coimbra in collaboration with the Agency for the Promotion of Downtown Coimbra (APDC) and the support of the municipal entities (Parishes’ Union of Coimbra and City Council of Coimbra).
