Job summary: The Board of Directors of the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology of the University of Coimbra (CNC), Portugal, opens an international call for the hiring of ONE PhD holder position to carry out research activities under the project PTDC/BTM-TEC/29621 /2017 entitled “iPS cells-derived exosomes - impact on mitochondrial (dys)function in Huntington's disease and potential nanodelivery system for microRNA-based therapeutics” with the following characteristics:

Hiring regime: Employment contract for uncertain term, on an exclusivity basis, under the Labor Code approved Law no. 7/2009, of February 12, under its current version, Law No. 93/2019 of September 4th. The contract is expected to last for 6 months.
Nível remuneratório: The monthly salary is corresponding to level TRU 33 (2.134, 73€).
Funding: Financed by national funds through the FCT / MCTES and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), namely under the following frameworks: “Projetos de Desenvolvimento e Implementação de Infraestruturas de Investigação inseridas no RNIE”; “Programa Operacional Competitividade e Internacionalização – POCI”, “Programa Operacional Centro2020”, and State Budget.
Place of work: Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology, University of Coimbra, Portugal, Polo I, Polo III and UC-Biotech (Cantanhede).
Destinatários: Applicants may be Nationals, Foreign and Stateless candidates who hold a PhD in Bioinformatics, Biomedical engineering, data science or related fields. Applicant should hold a scientific and professional curriculum that reveals a profile appropriate to the activity to be developed and with excellent knowledge of spoken and written Portuguese and English.
Activities: Execution of research activities in the funded project “EXOmirHD - Exosomes released from induced pluripotent stem cells - impact on mitochondrial (dys)function in Huntington's Disease and potential system for delivery of microRNA-based therapeutics”. The candidate will contribute to the development of research activities within the scope of Task 4, with the responsibility to identify and validate genomic and proteomic targets in neurodegenerative diseases, using not only databases available in repositories (such as NCBI, Ensembl, UCSC, Broad Institute, Protein Atlas, EMBL, etc), but also data obtained experimentally in the context of this project. The candidate will also develop activities of communication, dissemination and exploitation of results, namely through the writing of scientific articles.
Selection: Curriculum evaluation and interview (ENT) to the three (3) candidates with the highest ranking in the Curriculum evaluation.
Selection and Assignment Criteria: The Curriculum Assessment (AC) will consider the absolute merit of the candidate's CV and his suitability for the profile and tasks described above, in particular his proven experience in analyzing NGS data such as RNASeq, multi-omics data analysis such as genomic alterations, transcriptome and proteomic profiling, using databases available in repositories, practical and proven theoretical experience in statistical analysis and in the use of statistical tools such as R or Python. Experience in “machine learning” methods is valued.
In the Interview (ENT) the skills of communication and verbal expression, command of the English language, analysis and critical sense of the candidate and their motivation and interest will be valued.
The formula for obtaining the final classification (CF), on a scale from 0 to 100, will be: CF = 0.50*AC + 0.50*ENT
The Selection Jury reserves the right not to select any candidate if it is verified that none of them has the appropriate profile for the exercise of the functions.
