Groups of representatives of CiBB Postdoctoral Researchers and PhD Students

Postdoctoral Researchers Representatives

CiBB Postdoctoral Researchers are all the researchers who have received a doctoral degree, belong to a research group of the CiBB consortium, namely Neuroscience and Disease (N&D), Innovative Therapies (IT) and Metabolism, Ageing and Disease (MAD), and are employed through a temporary appointment of any nature (e.g fellowships, contracts under the law DL57/2017, fixed-term contract, among others). With this aim in mind, the CiBB Postdoc Representatives Committee pledges to:

-       Ensure the representation of its members in the scientific council of the CiBB
consortium;
-       Promote and support the organization of seminars, workshops, symposia,
conferences and activities of science communication and outreach, by CiBB
postdoctoral researchers;
-       Promote informal scientific and social activities to facilitate the interaction between CiBB postdoctoral researchers;
-       Support other activities proposed by CIBB postdoctoral researchers or the CiBB consortium institutions.

The CiBB Postdoc Representatives Committee is managed by 6 postdoctoral representatives elected among all CiBB postdoctoral researchers, being 3 of them representing each one of the three thematic strands of the CiBB consortium: Neuroscience and Disease (N&D); Metabolism, Ageing & Disease (MAD); and Innovative Therapies (IT), and 3 of them representing the three different working places of CIBB consortium, namely Polo I, III and UC-Biotech. Representatives will serve as links between CiBB postdoctoral researchers and the CiBB consortium, and with the University of Coimbra through the Instituto de Investigação Interdisciplinar. The representatives of each thematic strand will represent the specific needs of the postdoctoral researchers of the respective thematic strand.

PhD Students Representatives

The CiBB PhD students representatives are formed by 6 PhD students, representing the three thematic strands of the CiBB consortium (Neuroscience and Disease; Metabolism, Ageing and Disease; Innovative Therapies). We aim to serve as the representative body of the CiBB PhD students working at the CiBB consortium (CNC-UC/iCBR-FMUC) for a temporary and defined period of mentored research activity. Therefore, the representatives ensure the representation of its members in the scientific council of the CiBB consortium; promote and support the organization of seminars, workshops, and activities of science communication and outreach, by CiBB PhD students; promote informal scientific and social activities to facilitate the interaction between CiBB PhD students.

To promote literacy and well-being during the PhD, CiBB PhD students' representatives organized seminars on "Financial Literacy for Dummies" and "Mental Health during the PhD" open to the entire scientific community, with positive feedback. Solidarity collections were also organized one during the Christmas season in which the goods collected were delivered to Cáritas Diocesana de Coimbra, and another in collaboration with a fellow ambassador from Académica Start UC, which were delivered to the Acreditar Association on World Food Day. To improve the conditions of CiBB's doctoral students, we surveyed them to understand the students' mental health needs/conditions. With the results obtained from the survey, we will discuss strategies that can be adopted with CiBB management to improve the well-being of the entire doctoral student community.
