Caio H. Franco completou o doutorado em Ciências (Microbiologia e Imunologia) pela Universidade Federal de São Paulo em 2018. Publicou 24 artigos em periódicos revisados ​​por pares, acumulando mais de 300 citações até o momento (fator de impacto acumulado 91.24, fator-h: 11, Plubons - Junho de 2021). As principais pesquisas desenvolvidas por C. Franco são nas áreas de Biologia Celular, Microbiologia e Parasitologia. Suas principais atividades relacionam-se com o desenvolvimento e aplicação de ensaios de triagem fenotípicas in vitro (principalmente em modelos de infecção, com base em high content analysis). C. Franco realizou screenings em larga-escala com bibliotecas de pequenas moléculas / produtos naturais, além de caracterizar o perfil fenotípico e genotípico de patógenos resistentes a fármacos (T. cruzi, P. falciparum). C. Franco também estabeleceu um ensaio para identificar compostos que causam a ruptura / inibem a formação de biofilme por bactérias Gram-positivas (Staphylococcus spp.). Atualmente, C. Franco trabalha com screening genómico funcional como pós-doutorando no Laboratório de RNA e Infecção (PI: Dra. Ana Eulalio) no Centro de Neurociências e Biologia Celular (CNC / CIBB, Universidade de Coimbra). Seu trabalho atual está focado na identificação de microRNAs que regulam a infecção por S. aureus, enquanto também implementa um ensaio de screening funcional para avaliar os efeitos dos microRNAs na infecção por Salmonella em macrófagos.
