Patricia Prada lives in Brazil, where she graduated in nutrition and completed residency training, both at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). She completed her Ph.D. in Science at the University of São Paulo (USP) in 2001. She received a postdoctoral fellowship in the clinical research laboratory in insulin resistance at the School of Medical Sciences of University of Campinas (UNICAMP) from 2002 to 2006 and a postdoctoral fellowship at the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC)/Harvard Medical School in Boston from 2006 to 2009.

She is currently an Associate Professor of Nutrition at the School of Applied Sciences (FCA) in the UNICAMP, coordinating the Laboratory of Molecular Research in Obesity (LabIMO). Currently, she is doing a senior Pos-Doc at Max Planck Institute in Professor Jens Brüning's laboratory in Köln, Germany. Her research line is about identifying and understanding the physiological, pathophysiological, and molecular mechanisms that control food intake. In this line, she has international publications that have identified signaling proteins in the hypothalamus and reward system that participate in the control of food intake, contributing to the genesis of obesity. Also, she has ongoing research projects that investigate possible pathophysiological and molecular mechanisms involved in managing food intake in the face of environmental challenges, such as consumption of very palatable diets (cafeteria diet) and exposure to air pollution.
