Research lines

To characterize the role of heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs) in neurodevelopmental disorders

To study the role of intra-axonal autophagy in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease

Overview

The laboratory research focuses on intra-axonal and dendritic signalling pathways, in hippocampal and cortical neurons, under physiological and pathological conditions. In particular, the research group aims to study the involvement of intra-axonal autophagy dysfunction in Alzheimer’s disease onset and understand the role of RNA-binding proteins in rare neurodevelopmental disorders and epilepsy.
The techniques applied in this laboratory include primary cell cultures, in vivo transfection of nucleic acids (in utero electroporation), in vitro and in vivo pharmacology, biochemical assays, immunocytochemistry, and confocal (live-)imaging.
These strategies allow a solid study of neuronal development and the mechanisms underlying brain neurodegenerative disorders, aiming at the development of new therapeutical approaches.
